September 4, 2004 Update
About two months have passed since the last update, and very little progress can be noted photographically. Inspection delays, mix-ups with sub-contractors, and contractor inattentiveness have been frustrating at best.
Hurricane Charley passed us by, doing only minor tree damage in the neighborhood and no damage to the house (the new hurricane wind codes make the house extremely strong), but the effect that will be most felt is in more delays. The contractors lost several days prepping their many projects before storm and working on new emergency projects afterwards. We don't know yet if material shortages will become an issue.
But in spite of these issues, some progress has been made. The wiring and plumbing are roughed-in and the low-voltage system is awaiting inspection, the windows are all installed with the exception of the special order fixed windows. The A/C ductwork is in. The kitchen and bath cabinetry was ordered and is in storage.
In August, Jeannie and I made a trip to North Carolina to shop for furniture. We didn't purchase anything, but made all the essential contacts to buy the items that we found and liked.
As we sit and wait for Hurricane Frances, we worry that we may face even further delays...
